As me and C was walking over for lunch at Bar Shu a few weeks ago we stopped by an at the time soon-to-be-opening restaurant just down the street. The place was bustling with activity, dust and tools laying around everywhere and workers putting the finishing touches to what looked to become a very well designed, stylish and elegant venue. C is acquainted with the well reputed owners from his days when selling table management systems. Anthony Demetre, the chef, and his business partner Will Smith who has a good track record as a restaurant manager together won a Michelin Star at Putney Bridge.
From my first steps into the dining area I loved the look of the place. Subtle colors, strict lines, very clever mood lighting on the walls in the shape of uniquely cut MDF boards covering dimmed lights (simple, yet very effective with an interesting look), beautiful furniture and a great bar area tells the tale of a lot of time spent on planning and design.
Talking to Mr Smith he was obviously very excited, opening evening only a day away. He seemed very confident though and looked very happy with what they were creating. Now that the reviews have started showing up I am sure he is even happier. Apparently the attention to detail that I noticed and loved in the venue design has continued all the way through to the food on the plates and bottles in the bins. This is not another case of great looking place, so so food. Even Marina O'Loughlin raves about it... And when she is happy, you know you will be.
According to MO'L as well as Squaremeal the food is not only great, it is also reasonably priced. Mental note: a must try next time I feel ilke treating myself and a special someone to a great night out.
