We have heard Maria does the best Bubble and Squeak in London. I hardly know what that is, but today by Jove we are going to try it.

Fantastic. Awesome brekkie, feeling so much better and prepared to face the day. Wonderful place, quick and personal service. I totally understand why it comes so well recommended.
Bubble and Squeak turned out to be fried veggies, mainly potato and cabbage. Traiditionally it is made using the leftover veggies from the Sunday roast and the name is simply what it sounds like when you cook the meal. Yum. Peasants' food, I love it.
Would love to come here and eat on a really rainy day, I bet the rain pouring on the plastic roof over the market would make a lovely sound.
After the brekkie we walked around the back streets of Borough. There are so many amazing old houses and fascinating spots (like the Cross Bones Graveyard, an old unconsecrated burial ground for prostitutes and other outcasts used from medieval times up until the mid 1800s with up to 15,000 people buried there over the years, photos here and here) that makes you want to learn more about what this area was like 200 years ago. One thing's for sure, I probably wouldn't have wanted to live here... So many houses have signs on them stating how they were among the first low cost housing to be erected in London and how places were home to a person or other famous for helping the poor and outcast. Must have been absolutely horrible living conditions around here. Not like today. Today the property value around here is ridiculous.
Stopped by The Waterloo Wine Co, fantastic wine store just off Borough High Street, and got a Pinot Noir from New Zealand, Waipara West 2002. Actually I was looking for another Kiwi Pinot Noir by Mt Difficulty, a 2004, that was recommended by an acquaintance but he didn't have that in the store. Looking forward to devouring this substitute with some amazing Montgomery Cheddar I picked up at Neal's Yard Dairy tonight at B's place.
