Today is the 50th anniversary of the outrageous act a girl by the name of Rosa Parks did at a bus in Montgomery, Alabama.
She had the nerve to not give up her seat to a white person.
That simple, yet so incredibly corageous, act of civil disobedience marked the start of the public fight in America for equal rights regardless of race.
My heart pounds and my eyes well up when I think of what she must have felt.
Metropolitan Transport Authority today does a beautiful thing:
"In a tribute to civil rights icon Rosa Parks, the front passenger seat of every one of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's city and Long Island buses will remain open today to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her act of civil disobedience."
Over 5000 buses today carry a sign saying "It All Started On a Bus" over a front seat. I love it!
You can read about it at Newsday.com.
I so wish she would have lived to experience this day but unfortunately she died about a month ago.
